Lately, I’ve been meditating and reading a lot about the Law of Attraction, and I’ve been experimenting with it in my daily life with varying results. On days when I observe myself getting into a negative frame of mind, I tend to experience a bad day that progresses to a terrible day.
Conversely, I’ve observed myself on good days, where I’m feeling happy and excited, and I notice that on those days, everything seems to come together for me and works out nicely. Those are the days when I have my ‘inspired moments,’ my great ideas. Those are the days when I feel like I am the luckiest person alive. Fortunately, it has nothing to do with random luck, and everything to do with the way I’m thinking and the way I’m feeling.
Back in 2006-2007, a popular book and movie came out, called The Secret. The Secret offered an explanation of the Law of Attraction and practical advice on how to apply it in order to create a life of one’s choosing. This new way of thinking gained a lot of attention through the media, and consequently, the Law of Attraction philosophy became more widely known and practiced. It was a new idea to me back then, and I spent a lot of time studying and reading about it.
While The Secret got us all thinking about a more positive path, the skill of manifesting our desires out of thin air didn’t always come as easily as we had hoped. We’re all unique. We all come from different backgrounds and different perspectives. We all learn differently. Sometimes, we learn little bits here and there, and it takes a while before all the pieces fit together in a way that makes sense to us.
As you are reading these words right now, know that wherever you are in your journey is your new starting point. Start today from wherever that is and take a step forward. Take the following 3 steps, and make your dreams come true.
- ASK: Focus on what you want with strong positive emotion.
The Law of Attraction means “like attracts like.” In other words, when we focus on positive thoughts and feelings, we bring positive experiences into our lives. When we focus on negative thoughts and feelings, we bring negative experiences into our lives. Whatever we focus on, whether it’s something we want or something we don’t want, that’s what we’re going to get more of.
For example, you wake up one day feeling unhappy. As the day goes on, things just seem to get worse and worse. You feel like you’re caught in a negative spiral, and you are, because the Law of Attraction keeps bringing you more of what you’re feeling or thinking or focusing on.
Whatever you give your attention to gains momentum and brings more and more of the same to you. It doesn’t matter whether you’re remembering something from the past, observing something in the present, or imagining something about your future. You’re thinking your thoughts and feeling your emotions now, and this activates a vibration within you that brings similar experiences to you in the current moment.
- BELIEVE: Expect to receive what you focus on.
This principle goes deeper into the Law of Attraction and says that you not only need to be thinking about something to get it, but you need to believe it or expect it at the same time. You need to feel that you are already living that reality, because that new and expected reality exists first in the unseen dimension before it moves into the physical dimension. In other words, you get whatever you’re thinking about, whether you want it or not.
Your physical reality is a reflection of what you most strongly believe to be true. For example, if you want to have more energy, but you feel tired and your focus is constantly moving to how tired you feel, then you’re going to keep feeling tired.
On the other hand, if you want to have more energy, and you are focusing intensely on how wonderful it will feel when you have more energy, that positive momentum has a chance to build so that it can materialize in your physical reality. The stronger you believe you have more energy and the more you can attach your emotion to it – feelings of gratitude and joy about having endless amounts of energy – the sooner you’ll start feeling it in your physical body.
- RECEIVE: Allow yourself to easily receive what you focus on.
Get yourself into a receptive state – a state of ‘allowance’ – a state where you ‘know’ that you already have what you asked for. That means letting go of anything that is interfering with your calm, relaxed, joyful and appreciative state of being. If you’re feeling doubts or worries, then you’re not in a state of allowance. If your mind is busy judging yourself or others, then you’re not in a state of allowance. You’re in a state of resistance and need to stop trying too hard or worrying that things may not work out.
When we’re willing to simply let others be as they are, it takes a lot of stress off of ourselves. We can let go of worrying about others, and we can let go of trying to control others.
When you’re in a receptive state of allowing, you’re able to find a non-judgmental and accepting perspective that still lets you keep your connection to your inner being. It’s about focusing on things that feel good no matter what situation you’re dealing with. It’s about using your emotional guidance system to help direct your thoughts in a more positive direction.
You’ll always know you’re on the right track by the way you feel. Make it your goal to identify, moment by moment, what it is that you want. Then, use the power of your thought to focus on it, and allow the power of the Law of Attraction to draw it to you.
If you’re concerned about the influence that others may have on your emotional state, remember that other people can only affect us in a negative way if we let them. How do we let them affect us negatively? We invite them into our personal experience through our thoughts and emotions – by talking to them, observing them, talking about them, thinking about them, thinking about their problems, etc. I’m not saying you need to stop thinking about people, but rather, choose how you want to be thinking about someone.
Are you ready now to meditate on the above 3 strategies and start to deliberately use them every day? Over time, you’ll notice your point of attraction will be shifting more toward the things that you want in life. Expect the best in life, and that’s what you’ll get.

“You will notice that those who speak most of prosperity, have it. Those who speak most of health, have it. Those who speak most of sickness, have it. Those who speak most of poverty, have it. It is Law. It can be no other way… The way you feel is your point of attraction, and so, the Law of Attraction is most understood when you see yourself as a magnet getting more and more of the way you feel. When you feel lonely, you attract more loneliness. When you feel poor, you attract more poverty. When you feel sick, you attract more sickness. When you feel unhappy, you attract more unhappiness. When you feel healthy and vital and alive and prosperous—you attract more of all of those things.” –Abraham
